Shadow puppetry is one of the most expressive puppetry forms. Maths, physics and art combine to create 2D shadow puppets that interact with the light. The images can be figurative or abstract, small or very large.

Participants may work alone or in groups devising a narrative, making the characters and then learning how to perform with the puppets to bring the narrative to life.

Make a Hand Puppet

9:30 am to 12:30 pm each day

Do you want to make a human, an alien, an animal, a monster or a favourite storybook character that becomes a hand puppet that you can use to tell stories?

You will sculpt the head of your hand puppet starting with paper, cardboard and tape, make it durable with papier mache and finish it with paint and hair. A basic costume will be supplied for you to embellish and finish.

This workshop is delivered in three, 3 hour sessions so that there is time for the materials to dry.

Puppet Pals

Puppet Pals is a creative rod puppet making workshop that encourages children, to imagine, design and create their own unique puppet character.

We are always amazed at the creativity and variety when a group is given access to the same instructions and the same materials.

After the making is finished, we spend time helping the participants find a character & a voice for their new puppets and then create stories.

A marionette is a string puppet with 3 main features - the puppet, the strings and the control or bars that the puppeteer uses to control the puppet.

This clever workshop allows each participant to create a unique marionette character using wood, fabric and paint.

It is suitable for children 10 years and over, teenagers and adults.

October 7 & 8

Storybook Inspirations

9:30 am to 1:30 pm each day

Suitable for 9 to 18 years

This is an 8 hour workshop over 2 days.

Using the Treehouse series by Andy Griffith and Terry Denton* as your inspiration, you will make a model of a Treehouse storey. This could be one from the books or something crazy that you invent.

We supply a base board for the floor of your storey and a wonderful array of materials, glues and paints to help you create your model. You will then have the opportunity to present your creation to the group.
